There was a faith... The one of the Abbot Foulques who founded in 1139 ths Valmagne Abbey on lands given by the Lord of Cabrières, vassal of Raymond Trencavel, viscount of Béziers.

The Valmagne Abbey promptly extended its outbuilding in 1145, as it became a Cistercian Abbey... One of its "Farm", the MAS del NOVI, located ont top of a surrounding hill with an unbeatable view of the nearly shore, was dedicated to the wine production...

Once named "Via Domitia", between Nemausus and Baeterrae (now respectivaly Nîmes and Béziers), the Saint-Jacques de Compostelle Way comes near the Abbey, wich was a stoping place for its pilgrims. At the MAS del NOVI, one can still read "Siste et Ora Viator" (Traveller, Sitdown and Pray !) on a crucifix.

In the rumultuous years after the French Revolution of 1789, the Abbey was assaulted by locals farmers who burnt all the monk's real estate documents... Thus, this vast domain was divided up into various private properties.

Today, the MAS du NOVI (also named "Domaine St-Jean du Noviciat") has become a property of 100 ha, of wich 50 are vinegards gathered together around various buildings, like a wine cellar and... a châpel.
